Year 9 ESC5 (Mrs Crockart)

We have had a fantastic start to the 2016 school year in ESC5. Students have all been working really hard in and out the classroom participating in a variety of activities to practice positive social skills, develop self respect, and achieve their personal academic goals.

Each week through Community Access students are participating in guided tours of local organisations and amenities to gain an understanding of the facilities available to residents and visitors and the employment opportunities within these organisations. We have been fortunate to have a tour of COLES Kalamunda, The Kalamunda Shire Offices, and the History Village so far this term.

With the kind support of Bunnings Kalamunda we have begun our ocean themed mosaic tiles as part of our Geography unit on Marine Biomes. Students have made a great start on these wonderful tiles and we hope to complete them at the beginning of Term 2. In our History unit we have been investigating the lives of Indigenous Australians before European settlement. Working cooperatively students built traditional mia mia shelters from locally sourced natural materials. They have also (dot) painted river stones and made clay models of Australian animals.

We are all looking forward to Easter with our families and a wonderful break over the holidays before another term of fun learning in Term 2.
